Le fauteuil « Egg » d’Arne Jacobsen faite son cinquantenaire, l’éditeur Fritz Hansen à demandé à l’artiste danois, Tal R de customiser l’icône du design danois. La cinquantaine d’Eggs recouverts de patchworks de tissus cousus main constitue cette série limitée. Les pieces de tissus ont été collectés à travers le monde comme Istanbul, Berlin et New York ainsi que des friperies au Danemark ou dans les kibboutz d’Israël.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Egg, we approached Danish artist Tal R with the ambition to obtain a unique and untradtional tribute to the Arne Jacobsen design.
« The idea of combining this representative symbol of Danish Design which qualifies as high culture with patchwork which qualifies as popular culture, intrigued me. Patchwork is like a bubble and squeak of blankets. It’s the leftovers from the workroom, and traditionally something people have made together. It’s associated with collectivity. For example, people used to send patches by chain letters, and then one day you’d have enough to make an entire quilt. »
