The innovative Shangaan Electro Nozinja presents its first album on Warp Records, a refreshing breath of dance music facing the future from Limpopo in South Africa. On Nozinja Lodge, the producer tests the limits of the Shangaan Electro frantic withe rave sound tracks for adrenaline junkies such as ‘Baby do You Feel Me’ and ‘Vatswelani’, while enjoying the freedom to slow down to give a touch more deep, singing to the sound of its own on ‘Vomaseve Hina’ and the title of the end ‘Jaha’. The songs are about love, faith and tribal customs while relentlessly pursuing the visceral thrill of the dance; there are several singers Shangaan alongside Nozinja. The album has a unique soul stamped with the spirit of the Shangaan people, its language and its musical history. Leaving the vibrant cultural landscape post-apartheid of South Africa, but Nozinja is a true visionary of the digital diaspora of the 21st century. Listen below the title of the track 4 ‘Xihukwani’ of the album Nozinja Lodge which will be released on June 1st.
This summer Nozinja will be in residence at Station to Station, a ’30 Day Happening “(happening 30 days) programmed by Doug Aitken, to be held at the Barbican in London. It will also present on festivals and begin with the Red Bull Music Academy Festival in New York on May 1st.
