Shamir Bailey, you’ll have to remember this name. The young man is the new prodigy of the prestigious label XL Recordings : Radiohead, Adele, M.I.A., Gorillaz, Devendra Banhart… Shamir Bailey, twenty years and a confusing musical maturity. The boy is coming straight from Las Vegas with his first EP, Northtown. With only five tracks, Shamir demonstrates that talent doesn’t wait for years et delivers an indescribable and androgynous voice. Speaking for himself, he said “at the beginning, people thought I was a girl, I found this disturbing and it drove me mad. Then I realized that it was not a weight but something which makes me unique. I’ve definitely wanted to put all of that in the middle of my music”. Shamir is spreading a insane sense of timing with a feminine touch leading to a wonderful cocktail. His inimitable timbre can be found on I Know It Was A Good Thing et Sometimes a Man, two tracks both effective et well thought. The next part shows a large talent only asking to dive into the deepness of the modernity. With I’ll Never Be Able To Love, Shamir deploys his wings and sign a tearing song succeed by Lived and Died Alone, a Lindi Ortega cover belonging to the category of the unforgettable ballads. Only 5 tracks can be frustrating but Shamir has announced his debut album called Ratachet on the 18th of may.
