Continuing a long tradition of collaboration with contemporary talents, Louis Vuitton asked three artists from the world of street art to revisit traditional scarf, shawl and stole models. AIKO, a young Japanese artist who works in New York, created a scarf with 62 colors for an emphatic and bright match with the delicate silk surface. The artist’s chromatic clash references traditional kimono motifs, melding them with the mythic Louis Vuitton Monogram. Brazilian twins Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo—better known as Os Gemeos—have earned international renown for their giant and exuberant mural installations. For Louis Vuitton, they conceived a mosaic-like work representing two universal symbols, the moon and the sun. American artist RETNA was drawn to the evanescent fluidity of the silk and cashmere stole. He applied his passion for calligraphy, decorating the stole with mysterious watercolor hieroglyphs designed with help from children. Fusing different cultures, the signs create a transparent, subtle rhythm on the surface. With their boundless enthusiasm, the artists shook up the brand’s codes, flawlessly executing a subtle mix of tradition and creativity.
