G-Star was presented last week its new Autumn/Winter 2013 collection in Berlin with a runway show including unexpected elements to demonstrate its passion for RAW denim and denim craftsmanship. During the show cinema legend Michael Madsen made an unexpected guest appearance by performing an art intervention. The runway show in the St. Agnes-Kirche in Berlin included the highlights of the G-Star Autumn/Winter 2013 collection build around denim craftsmanship, exploring the unlimited possibilities of RAW denim. Key themes included 3D denim designs, the exploration of new silhouettes, and experiments in terms of fabric weights and colours. G-Star evolved denim craftsmanship in terms of 3D denim construction techniques with the introduction of the Charlie pant, A-Crotch and denim jackets with 3D constructed sleeves. The brand proclaimed its passion for denim by experimenting with different fabric weights. A heavy and crispy 20oz denim was to be found throughout the collection, in long A-line jackets and modern cut denim pant designs. The use of heavy fabrics, including denim but also rich wools, lead to new silhouettes with either bold and wide tops combined with slim bottoms like the 3301 Jeg skinny for women, or slim tops mixed loose denim fits such as the 3D Charlie pant. Key theme to be found throughout the collection is a new type of blue colour called Mazarine. Inspired by Toile de Chine, a fabric that predates denim, this fabric features a blue warp and weft, resulting in an intense, almost purple kind of blue. The RAW denim theme was presented in combination modern military clothing, workwear inspired garments and a broad range of exclusive tailored collection items.
