BMX fans from all over Europe rushed to the Grand Palais on Friday November 2nd for the 1st BMX contest ever to be organized in this venue, the Red Bull Skylines. A 2,000 square-meter park, the largest ever built in Europe, conceived by the American architect (shaper) Nate Wessel, designer of the legendary X-Games BMX and Skating structures. More than 6-meter-high modules were ride by 25 international riders multiplying the spectacular tricks in front of the 5600 people gathered under Europe’s largest glass roof. The real battle was between technique and style. And finally, the technique has won with the victory of American Ryan Nyquist, 33, a contest regular. If his style has been criticized, his technique is impeccable. His 720° bus (2 full circles in the air + handle turning), his back flip suicide (back rotations with straight arms) and his nothing cancan (bike drop with two legs on one side) won over the jury since he was the only one to try these last two tricks. Relive the competition in the video below. Enjoy!
